Join us for a late summer soft adventure that includes some of our favorite areas that aren’t Umbria — the glorious Argentario promontory and the Isola del Giglio off the coast of Tuscany. This 8-day, 7-night adventure is more active than our other tours, and includes 1 night in Porto Santo Stefano, 2 nights on Giglio and 4 nights in Umbria, with these highlights, plus a whole lot more:
Liz and your driver will meet you at Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO) for private van transfer to Porto Santo Stefano — about a 2-hour drive. Along the way, we’ll give you an introduction to the week ahead.
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board a historic wooden sailboat for the 1-hour sail to Isola del Giglio, one of the “pearls of Venus,” as the 7 islands of the Tuscany archipelago are known.
On this full day, we’ll experience Giglio by land and sea:
After breakfast, we’ll catch the 1-hour ferry back to the mainland, where our van will be waiting to take us to Allerona, our base for the rest of the week. We’ll arrive around lunchtime.
This morning, and weather permitting, those who wish to can join Liz for a ~60-minute walk along the strada bianca, the gravel road that runs through the countryside. You may even get a dog to walk!
Weather permitting, we’ll spend most of the day outdoors, learning about the ancient Etruscans, thermal baths and foraged foods.
Today we’ll get to know Orvieto, the beautiful medieval city with Etruscan roots and a magnificent 14th-century cathedral. On the 20-minute ride to Orvieto, we’ll explain a little of the city’s history (and maybe a little about how Liz and Paolo met here!).
We’ll say our farewells and, depending on your onward schedule, we’ll get you transferred to Rome airport or Orvieto train station.
