Villaggio Tours was founded to offer a meaningful alternative to mass tourism and overtourism in Italy while contributing to the revitalization of our small Umbrian village, which—like many rural towns—faces depopulation. Our mission is twofold: to create unforgettable, immersive travel experiences for our guests and to support the long-term social and economic vitality of our community.
Our experiences are intentionally small-scale, local, and low-impact. We limit group sizes to a maximum of 12 guests to ensure tourism remains manageable, respectful, and sustainable over time. Guests stay within the village itself, allowing them to experience authentic Italian village life while keeping the economic benefits of tourism within the community. We partner closely with local merchants, artisans, restaurateurs, wineries, and service providers, helping sustain existing businesses and encouraging new economic opportunities and job creation.
Environmental responsibility is central to how we operate. We encourage guests traveling within Italy to arrive by train whenever possible. Many activities are reached on foot, and the village center is car-free. Our guesthouse, which we own and operate, is designed to minimize waste and energy use: we provide refillable water bottles, filtered drinking water, organic bath amenities in refillable containers, and operate without single-use plastics. Heating and cooling units are individually controlled and turned off when rooms are unoccupied.
We prioritize local and sustainable sourcing, using organic food products whenever possible and procuring most supplies—from food and wine to guest amenities—within Umbria, often at 0 km. Meals and experiences reflect the agricultural heritage of the region and support local producers.
Our guests engage in slow, soft travel experiences that foster a deeper appreciation for the natural, cultural, and agricultural history of the area. Activities include nature and foraging hikes, learning about native plants, and participating in traditional seasonal harvests such as olives and grapes. All foraging and harvesting activities are conducted responsibly, at small scale, and in strict adherence to local laws and seasonal regulations.
Through thoughtful tourism practices, Villaggio Tours seeks to create a positive, lasting impact—preserving the character of our village, protecting the surrounding environment, and offering travelers a genuine and enriching Italian experience.
